Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeach five sections of Middle School history and social sciences coursesServe as an advisor to a group of 8-10 middle school studentsPlan and facilitate meaningful, rigorous, level-appropriate instructionInspire students to engage in the exploration and study of history and social sciences through a combination of teaching methods and student interactions including interactive lecture, explorations, discussions, and hands-on learningCreate a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports students' individuality and encourages creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking skillsCollaborate with colleagues to enhance curricular focus and teaching strategies in order to build an inspiring and engaging program of studiesDemonstrate a desire for constant professional and personal growth by regularly participating in and seeking out professional learning opportunitiesPromote school life by sponsoring student clubs and activities and serving on academic committeesRequirementsMinimum of a bachelor's degree in History, Social Sciences, or a related field is required: an advanced degree is preferredMinimum of three years of social studies teaching experience at the middle school level: additional experience teaching secondary school preferredProven record of ability to teach students with diverse learning needsAbility to navigate sensitive conversations with families and other stakeholdersARE YOU READY TO JOIN OUR TEAM?All interested applicants applying for this position should submit their resume, cover letter, and salary requirements.Sewickley Academy is committed to having an inclusive community where all members are treated with dignity and respect.
