Job Description:

Basic Functions The Director of the Career Development Center (CDC) is responsible for the implementation of the Motor Carrier's strategic plan elements for the Career Development Center, to include the expansion of driver career programs and services throughout the organization. He/she is also responsible for key internal operational functions, to include developing and implementing the driver recruitment, retention, and training strategies for the organization. Qualifications and Requirements 1. Two to five years of supervisory and/or management level experience in the logistics and/or transportation industry (required). 2. Bachelor's degree in business, administration, education, or its equivalent (required); or degree may be substituted with additional training or certifications demonstrating advanced knowledge in the logistics and/or transportation industry (required). 3. Demonstrated leadership in a diverse management and operational role overseeing the outcomes of smaller business units (required). 4. Ability to inspire confidence in direct reports and external stakeholders (required). 5. General knowledge of financial management, forecasting, and analysis (desired). 6. General knowledge and experience in strategic planning processes (desired). 7. General human resource knowledge, including policy and personnel management (desired) General Duties and Responsibilities The CDC Director is responsible for leading departments in the following duties and responsibilities: 1. Serves as a key member of the management team, reporting directly to the COO. 2. Develops and implements the CDC's driver recruitment, retention, and training strategies. 3. Facilitate functional alignment and integration of CDC programs with other initiatives. 4. Achieve recruitment and retention goals related to general operations of the company. 5. Attend executive management staff meetings convened by the COO and/or Executive Team. 6. Lead departmental meetings for the teams he/she supervises. 7. Reinforce and develop personnel policies of the company as appropriate. 8. Reinforce the brand hierarchy of the company and its programs. 9. Participate in annual professional development/performance planning for his/her role. 10. Advise the COO and/or Executive Team of critical issues of importance to the company. 11. Perform other duties as assigned by the COO and/or Executive Team or as deemed necessary to assure the success of the company and its various activities. Specific Position Responsibilities The CDC Director is responsible for these specific responsibilities to effectively lead his/her staff: 1. Develop and maintain all driver recruiting, training, and retention policies which are reflective of best practices being utilized today for effective personnel management. 2. Institutionalize a people first culture in driver recruiting, training, and retention programs; guiding improvements and taking personal ownership of key issues as they arise. 3. Oversee the work of the Recruiting Manager to facilitate an effective and integrated management strategy for all company driver recruitment programs and services. 4. Oversee the work of the Training Manager, includes the execution of all company classroom, initial qualification, and line driver training programs to meet strategic plan objectives. 5. Oversee the work of the Retention Manager in development of programs and services which play a key factor in improving driver retention metrics and add value for the company. 6. Supervise the effective implementation of the company's training technology initiatives. 7. Facilitate strategic plan implementation working with various department directors and programs to achieve annual objectives, including an annual plan of work. 8. Develop economies of scale for centralized operational improvement and efficiencies managing the company's overall cost, efficiency, and integrated operations.
