Job Title: Operating Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 6 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Licensed Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Strong ambulatory experience Description: The Operating Room unit functions as a day surgery center within the facility. Room sizes are smaller, which determines the types of cases performed. Common cases include ENT surgeries such as tonsillectomies and endoscopic sinus surgeries. Orthopedic cases focus on sports medicine, hand surgeries, and total knee replacements. Ophthalmology cases involve cornea and retina surgeries. Gynecological procedures include laparoscopic surgeries and hysteroscopies. Urology cases encompass cystoscopy, vasectomy, and prostate biopsies. The unit operates Monday through Friday, and is closed on nights, holidays, and weekends. The daily schedule includes managing multiple operating rooms for different specialties. Robotic surgeries are not performed in this unit. The pace is fast, with a quick turnover of cases. Average case volume ranges from 80 to 120 cases per day. This unit provides comprehensive care and focuses on acute needs. Participation in trauma response is included within the scope of practice. A strong emphasis is placed on teamwork and collaboration among nursing staff. The charting system in use is EPIC. Experience with ambulatory care is a key differentiator for candidates.
