Job Description:

Incumbent is responsible for going door-to-door within Portage County to assure that pet owners have current dog licenses. Will assist with facility care and maintenance by cleaning the kennels, feeding and giving water to the animals. Incumbent will also assist the Dog Warden and deputies at fairs and festivals as needed. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Walk door-to-door in pre-assigned areas, interacting with homeowners or renters, confirm current dog licensure procedures are in place. Issue verbal or written notification to individuals who do not have proper licenses for their pets. Complete documentation to sell registration tags in the field. Collect money for sale of registration tags. Assist with answering the phones when in the Dog Warden’s office. Assist with facility care and maintenance by cleaning the kennels, and feed and give water to the animals. Assist the deputies when necessary. Assist the Dog Warden and deputies at fairs/festivals as needed. Other duties as assigned. NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs related Essential and Non-Essential functions as needed. I. JOB REQUIREMENTS Equipment: Ability to use the following equipment: Computer, clip board and writing instrument. Critical Skills/Expertise: Handle and accurately count money. Professionalism to represent the County and the Dog Warden’s office. Effectively communicate orally and in writing. II. RESPONSIBILITY Supervisor provides general direction in following established practices and clear-cut policies. Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work by standard checking resulting in little or no difficulty in loss of time to correct. III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS Incumbent maintains contact with co-workers and with the general public. The purpose of these contacts is to provide care for the animals, and to sell tags to animal owners. IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT Physical Requirements: Incumbent is required to lift over fifty (50) pounds occasionally. Physical Activity: Incumbent performs the following physical activities: balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Visual Activity: Incumbent performs work where the seeing job is at, within and beyond arm’s length. Job Location: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to weather of temperatures ranging below 32 degrees and/or above 100 degrees for periods in excess of one (1) hour. Incumbent may be exposed to noise sufficient to cause shouting in order to be heard.
